Background and Aims: Pre-participation examination and evaluation is an effective strategy for predicting and preventing injuries of athletes before participating in organized sports. The purpose of this research was to answer the question of whether the functional movement screening test (FMS) can predict the musculoskeletal injuries of club athletes in Iran?
Materials and Methods: The present study is a correlational-prospective study. The subjects of this research were 100 athletic club athletes who voluntarily participated in the test. The screening process of subjects' movement performance was done by the seven tests (FMS) and how to score it, based on the usual standard scoring of this test. The prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries was measured weekly and prospectively for 20 weeks using Fuller's 2006 injury registration form. Descriptive statistical methods and chi-square test were used to analyze the data, and logistic regression test was used to investigate the relationship between pre-test scores of motor performance screening test (FMS) and musculoskeletal injuries. SPSS26 software was used at the significance level of 0.05 in all stages to analyze the research data.
Results: Analyzing the data on the prevalence of sports injuries, the standard prevalence rate of injuries showed 3 injuries per 1000 person-hours. The research findings showed; Athletes with lower FMS test scores suffered 3.5 times more injuries than other people. The system performance characteristic curve (ROC) and Youden index showed a score of 16 as the injury cut-off point. The result of the logistic regression test showed the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the test (FMS) as 78.6%, 75.5% and 78%, respectively.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the research, according to the obtained values of sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of injury diagnosis and the rate of injury probability as well as the significant amount of the area under the curve, it seems that the scores of the FMS test can predict the musculoskeletal injuries of club runners. and the results of this test can be used to prevent sports injuries.
