Abstract

Abstract :

Background and Aims: The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between parenting stress, self-compassion, and fear of negative evaluation with coronavirus anxiety in parents of students with autism spectrum disorders.

Materials and Methods: The research method was a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population of this study included all parents of students with autism spectrum disorders in Tehran in 2020, of which 150 parents with autistic children were selected as a sample using convenience sampling. The parents of these children completed the Parenting Stress Questionnaires of Abidin (1990), Self-Compassion - Short Form of Reis et al. (2011), Fear of Negative Evaluation of Leri (1983), and Coronavirus Anxiety of Alipour et al. (2019). Multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses.

Results: The findings showed that coronavirus anxiety can be predicted based on self-compassion and fear of negative evaluation in parents of students with autism spectrum disorders, but coronavirus anxiety cannot be predicted and explained meaningfully based on parenting stress in parents of students with autism spectrum disorders.

Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that in order to reduce coronavirus anxiety in parents of students with autism spectrum disorder, training and counseling on promoting self-compassion and reducing fear of negative evaluation by psychologists and counselors can be useful.
