The immediate effect of balance training and its sustainability on the positional sensation of ankle in basketball players

Abstract

Background and Aim: The purpose of the present study was to determine the immediate influence of balance training with balance board and its durability sense of ankle position in basketball players.

Materials and Methods: participants of the study were 40 male subjects was randomly divided into two control and experimental groups (n=20). Then, after 5 minute warm up, ankle joint reconstruction errors were randomly assigned to all subjects at 30 degrees anterolateral plantar flexion by photogrammetry, respectively. Afterwards, experimental group participated in the short-term training protocol while the control group rested during this period. Finally, immediately after exercise and one hour after exercise, in both groups, pre-tests in post-tests, their ankle joint posture was measured and recorded. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS 21 software.

Results: Results of t-test showed that ankle (df=19, t=11.001, p=0.001) of subjects after attending training session along with a balance board, significantly improved. Also, statistically difference in absolute error ankle reconstruction angle between post-test and subsequent following an hour ( ankle df=19, t=0.112, p=0.538), but in the control group ,the absolute error ankle reconstruction position in the pre-test and post-test and subsequent one hour detraining, no significant difference was found ( ankle df=19, t=0.018, p=0.027).

Conclusion: According to the results It seems that a balance training session stimulates the ankle joint sensory receptors of male basketball players, which increases the accuracy of posture and remains in effect for one hour after exercise. Therefore, it is recommended to use this method of warming up players before training and competition, as it seems that with increasing accuracy of ankle joint position, the probability of injury in these joints is reduced
