Background and Aims: Chronic non-specific low back pain is one of the most common types of low back pain, due to the complexity of the injury mechanism in this type of low back pain, combined interventions and treatments have been suggested. Today, in low back pain, people's attitude to pain is very important and the interaction between biological characteristics of individuals and social and psychological aspects should be considered. Due to the high cost of face-to-face therapy interventions and difficult access to subjects, studies have turned to online exercises. However, the effectiveness of online interventions on chronic low back pain has not been studied so far. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of online cognitive exercises on pain and psychological factors in people with chronic non-specific low back pain.
Materials and Methods: The model of the present study was a randomized clinical trial. In the present study, based on previous research and using G * Power 3.1.7 software, 44 female and male subjects with non-specific chronic low pain were chosen from the 25-55 year people invited through declarations published in the offices of specialist physicians and physiotherapy clinics in Tehran and Karaj, as well as communicated through social media, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and they were then classified into two 22-individual groups (experimental and control). Furthermore, 18 intervention sessions were conducted for 12 weeks. Pain and psychological factors were respectively assessed by using the visual analogue scale (VAS), fear-avoidance belief questionnaire, and pain self-efficacy questionnaire. For statistical analysis of data, repeated measures analysis of variance, independent t-test and paired t-test were used at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test of the online group in pain reduction, pain self-efficacy, fear avoidance belief in daily physical activities and working conditions (P <0.001). In the control group, the changes within the group in the post-test did not show a significant difference compared to the pre-test.
Conclusion: It can be generally concluded that online exercises can effectively contribute to improving pain and psychological factors. Relying on the present research results, and considering horrid and forbidding conditions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the proposed intervention can be utilized to reduce pain and improve Psychological factors people with non-specific chronic low back pain.
