Abstract
Background and Aims: The aim of this study was survey and comparison of gesture production ability among Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), at risk of DCD, Peers and lower age children with typical development.
Material and Methods: For this aim, 91 boys (6 – 12 years old) selected as sample size and divided to five groups (20 child with typical development, 14 child with DCD, 17 child at risk of DCD, 20 typical development with 8- 9 years old and 20 typical development with 6- 7 years old). For recognize of DCD problem, Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire- Edition 7 (DCDQ-7) and Bruininks– Oseretsky Test of motor Proficiency was performed. For investigating of motor praxis, the Dewey gesture production test was performed. Data analysis was performed by ANOVA and independent t- test.
Results: comparison of subjects performance show that transitive modalities scores was better than intransitive modalities (P<0/05). Also, the comparison of verbal command and imitation position show that the two DCD groups performance in the imitation position was better significantly (P<0/05), while, in the performance of peers control group at the two position test (Transitive and Intransitive) was not saw difference. The between groups comparisons show that the performance of two DCD groups was disrupted in compare to control group. The scores of DCD group in compare to lower age children with typical development (8-9 age old) was not statistically difference at verbal command position; while, in the imitation position, the DCD group’s performance was better than lower age children groups statistically (P<0/05).
Conclusion: This results show that DCD subjects have developmental delays for performing motor praxis under verbal command modalities.
