Introduction: The aim of this study was to translate, localize and validate the Persian version of the return to sports questionnaire after anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL-RSI).
Methods: The ACL-RSI questionnaire was first translated into Farsi by two teams of bilingual experts. The validity of the content of the Farsi version was quantitatively evaluated by calculating the content validity index (CVI) and the content validity ratio (CVR) using a group of 10 experts. Then, 50 soccer players who underwented ACL reconstruction answered demographic and injury information questionnaires, ACL-RSI translated questionnaire, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), Tampa Fear of Movement Scale (TSK-11SV). and quality of life (SF12).
Results: The ACLRSI-Pr showed excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha 0.82) and was significantly correlated with the KOOS ‘quality of life’ (r = 0.70, p < 0.001), ‘symptoms’ (r = 0.53, p < 0.001), ‘pain’ (r = 0.58, p < 0.001), and ‘sports’ (r = 080, p < 0.001) subscales. The ACLRSI-Pr also correlated significantly with the IKDC (r = 0.72, p< 0.001), TSK (r = − 0.55, p < 0.001) and SF-12 (r = − 0.49, p < 0.001) scores.
Conclusion: The Persian version of the ACL-RSI scale was valid, discriminant, consistent and reliable in football player who had undergone ACL reconstruction. This score could be useful to evaluate the effect of psychological factors on
return to sport following ACL surgery.
